Lauren Kelly talks life

Posted in Instructors

We hung out with Les Mills Trainer Lauren Kelly and chatted all things life. Here's what she had to say.

Tell us about your career so far…

I trained in dance for 16 years but this came to an end through injury. I started teaching group exercise aged 21. I found Les Mills through my mum who was a BODYBALANCE™ instructor which, funnily enough, was my first programme. I teach 23 classes a week and now I am certified in seven Les Mills programmes.

If you weren’t a fitness instructor, what would you be?

I would say a dancer as growing up I had no other plans until I got my injury. My only other career interest is midwifery or nursing.

What wouldn’t we know about you?

I collect things from places I have good memories from. So I have a shoe box of random things; stones, shells, beer bottle lids, champagne corks, napkins, receipts...you get the picture!

When you’re not teaching Les Mills programmes, what’s your ideal day off?

Packing some food, jumping in the car with my son, Evan, and taking a drive to the countryside. I like going on a long walk or jumping waterfalls in Killin.

How long have you been in the industry?

13 years. I was 21 when I trained.

What made you become a Les Mills instructor?

The energy and buzz that I got from participating in these classes. The enjoyment that people get from the classes was so clear. I saw how the musical connection has such an impact on participants’ workouts. I just loved it and couldn’t wait to get on my first initial module training.

What’s the highlight of your career?

I have two.

1. For BODYATTACK™ I had my initial module training with Lyndsey and I will never forget that module. The atmosphere was electric and the friendships that were formed between us and the group that weekend had me in tears at the end of day two. It is just such a wicked 2 days to be part of. That’s really what it’s about.

2. At ONE LIVE London I got to present SH’BAM™ with Rach – cheesy, I know, but that was one incredible session.

Thanks Lauren! And if you guys want to hear more from Lauren…
