Last weekend in Stockholm at a global fitness event – One Live, hosted by fitness giants Les Mills and Reebok, Michael Trott represented the UK in the final of The One - a global fitness instructor competition. The competition was designed to recognise and reward the passion and talent of Les Mills group exercise instructors from across the globe.
Over ten global finalists from Shanghai, Paris, Dubai and Amsterdam competed with some truly inspirational workouts but it was Cambridge’s very own Michael Trott who impressed the judges for the second time (after winning the UK competition) and was crowned the global winner and THE ONE.
Michael teaches Les Mills BODYATTACK, BODYSTEP, BODYPUMP, BODYCOMBAT, CXWORX and RPM but its BODYATTACK that is his first love and the programme, which he won the competition with. Michael, who teaches at Nuffield Health Cambridge Fitness & Wellbeing Gym comments on the experience; “It was scary being in front of the judges and thousands of people but once I was up on that stage the nerves lifted. I’d been trying to visualise the whole performance for weeks in the build up and when the moment finally came I just maintained focus and kept repeating to myself you do every week, ‘just do what you do every Friday’, and then I just went for it.”
Dave Kyle, head trainer for Les Mills UK adds. “It’s awesome to see one of our instructors win this award! He embodies all our Les Mills values and is a walking example and role model of what a great instructor should be! He is an instructor that has not settled for being second best, he has taken control of his development and ensured that he can be the best he can by continually upskilling and developing through our advanced instructor modules and Quarterly Workshops. If all our instructors had the passion, energy, talent and magic that Mike has, the world would definitely be a fitter planet!”
Next for Michael is a trip to New Zealand to take part in the January 2016 master class filming and will receive a 12-month Reebok contract. Michael wins this award shortly after Les Mills UK Instructor Sarah Denning won the UK Active Spirit of Flame award earlier this year.
