WHAT’S INVOLVED?

Advanced Training is a two-day workshop, and in some countries will also be available as . as a six-week online training programme.

You will have lots of time for reflection and self-assessment. You will present tracks, reflect, develop, watch videos and gain incredible insights into how to deliver the experience in your classes. At the end of the training you will be given a development plan, to achieve your personal goals.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

All you need to know about Advanced Training

What is Advanced Training?

This new course has been designed to help you find your strengths as an Instructor and discover a whole range of ideas to grow your teaching. You will learn how to fill your classes and have longevity in teaching as the kind of Instructor you want to be. You will learn how to become a Group Fitness leader, how to be grounded in the essence of your program, and how to enhance the workout experience for your participants.

Initial Module Training equipped you with the foundations to teach and Advanced Training is your next step in developing yourself further as an Instructor.

How is it different to AIM 1 and AIM 2?

Advanced Training has a strong focus on leadership development. There is a greater focus on bringing your natural talents to the forefront – allowing you to teach from a place that is completely authentic to you. You are encouraged to examine your “why”, digging deep into exactly why you teach group fitness.

We know that Technique and Coaching are the foundations of being a great Instructor. These elements are still explored in Advanced Training, but there is an additional focus on leadership, program essence, and enhancing the experience.

AIM 1 and AIM 2 will gradually be phased out as we roll out Advanced Training across all programs.

Why are these changes being introduced?

With the natural evolution of our programs and coaching, the Les Mills Education team felt that there was a need to update, enhance and refine our current training. With global advances in technology, there was a great opportunity to also offer the content as an online option.

What if I have already done AIM 1?

Advanced Training has new and evolved content, and is therefore worthwhile for all Instructors to attend. AIM 1 enhanced your coaching and refined your technique. Advanced Training will add a whole new dimension to your teaching with its focus on leadership, plus finding your own authentic way to dial up your connection and performance, and become the Instructor you want to be.

What if I have already done AIM 1 and 2?

If you’ve already attended AIM 1 or AIM 2 and wondering what might be in Advanced Training for you, Kylie Gates says that approximately 80 per cent of the content is completely new. “Advanced Training is a totally different experience from doing AIM 1 and 2. There is a new focus on leadership which will absolutely change your state of mind when you teach, as well as the experience you create for your participants – and the enjoyment you receive from teaching.”

Nikki Snow, facilitator in Advanced Training, said: “It has led me to approach my classes with a totally different mindset, and made me feel more fulfilled as an Instructor. It helped me not only work on my Les Mills teaching, but has also made an impact in my personal life.”

Will I have an additional title if I do Advanced Training on top of Aim 1 and 2?

No, but you will benefit from the additional professional and personal development.

If I do Advanced Training for a certain program am I Advanced in everything?

The certification for the program in which you are presenting will be at the Advanced status once you successfully complete the course. Your status as an Instructor will also be Advanced but your other certifications will stay at their current stage.

What if I am an Elite Instructor?

If you have attended AIM 1 and AIM 2 and are already an Elite Instructor, you will remain an Elite Instructor in that program after completing Advanced Training.

Can I get Elite status from the new Advanced Training?

The new Advanced Training will not have Elite assessments linked to the course. This is because the content focuses on you as an individual and giving you tools to develop over time to become the best Instructor you can. If you have achieved the Elite status previously though, you will remain Elite in that program.

What if I have signed up for AIM 1 or 2 in the next few months?

Booked AIM 1 and AIM 2 courses for these programs will continue to run. These courses will still be valuable to you, especially if you are keen to brush up on your technique and coaching. These courses will only aid your Instructor development and further prepare you for Advanced Training.

What is the difference between the live and the online training?

The content is exactly the same.

In the live course, you will be immersed in the content and complete the training over two days – great if you enjoy face to face interactions, can easily travel to a training location, and wish to complete the course over a weekend. In the live course, you will present three times and receive feedback on each presentation.

The six-week online training course is a mix of Trainer-led and self-directed learning, where you will have additional time to embed the learning and enjoy the flexibility of fitting your learning around your lifestyle. In the online course, you will have a 30-minute one-on-one session with your Trainer for feedback on all the activities you have completed and two video presentations.

How long does the online training take, and what is the time commitment?

The online training course takes six weeks and requires a minimum of six hours a week of study.

Will I need to do any pre-work for the online course?

There are a few things for you to do to get prepared, including submitting a Pre-Work Track to your Trainer. Here is a brief overview:

STEP ONE: Download Documents from the Additional References Tab:

  • The Welcome Booklet: This useful Booklet gives you everything you need to know for the journey ahead and how to plan for it.
  • The Technique and Coaching Foundations Video for your program
  • Advanced Training Personal Journal: You will use this to track your e-Learning

STEP Two: Submit your Pre-Work Track

The next six weeks are about discovering who you are, finding out where you are at now and working towards where you want to be. To help you achieve this, you’re required to send in three pieces of filming:

  • Pre-Work Track: Full track from any recent release of your choice filmed in front of a live class. Due before the course begins
  • Presentation 1: 1st allocated track filmed in front of a live class. Due week 4
  • Presentation 2: 2nd allocated track filmed in front of a live class. Due week 6

Pre-Work Track

You’ll use this Pre-Work Track to self-review during the program. Record yourself teaching any full track from a recent release in front of a live class. If you already have footage filmed in the last two months, you can submit this.

STEP THREE: Review the Technique and Coaching Foundations Video

Use this video to review your own Technique, either self-review using a mirror or by asking another Instructor or your Group Fitness Manager for feedback.

STEP FOUR: Download the Free Mobile App

STEP FIVE: Staying in touch

Your Trainer will be in touch with you throughout the course. They’ll send you brief feedback on all of your submitted activities and presentations during this e-Learning There is also a discussion board where you can share your thoughts and ideas with fellow Instructors.

STEP SIX: Get ready for your Online Classroom

What if I miss a week for the online training?

You will need to keep on track with the weekly schedule so that you don’t fall behind with your learning group. The online course is very similar to a live course, with timeframes and deadlines, and you will be facilitated by your Trainer through each section. If you don’t complete each part on time, you will not complete the program.

Will I have to film myself?

Yes, for the online course you will film yourself three times: pre work track, presentation 1 and presentation 2. You will use these to self review your technique and submit to your Trainer for development.

How long after my Initial Module Training should I book onto Advanced Training?

We recommend actively teaching live classes for 3 to 6 months to build and develop the foundations of teaching for your program. As soon as you feel that you have mastered those skills, it’s time to take the next step in your development and book onto Advanced Training.

How do I book onto Advanced Training?

You can book through the Instructor Portal here.

Why aren’t all programs launching at the same time?

We are phasing the content in order to support the Training teams around the globe to roll out the new material and therefore will be staggering the release of each program.
