Grade Review

Choose from one of the four most recent releases (Q4/2021, Q1/2022, Q2/2022, Q3/2022) in your desired program that you feel the strongest in and enjoy teaching the most. View more details about filming requirements in our Program Specific Guidelines.

Application

Review the role descriptions depending on which position you’d like to be considered for the Les Mills US TAP team.

  • Trainer/Presenter – submit two video files telling us your Why and an example of your education delivery.
  • Assessor – include a writing sample answering the scenario prompt.

REVIEW PROCESS

  • Grade Review and Application must be submitted by December 15, 2022 at 5 pm CDT to be considered for The Les Mills Recruit.
  • Les Mills Connect profile must be up to date to have a valid application.
  • Once your video is successfully uploaded your feedback will be available by Wednesday, February 15, 2023. You will be notified if we need any further action from you.
  • When your feedback is ready, you’ll receive an email notifying you that your Grade Review is complete and your Development Form will be available in your portal.
  • You must receive a minimum Grade Review Level 5 to be eligible for the next stage.
  • 5 Key Element Skills and Criteria Summary outlines details for achieving each grade level. This can be viewed under your program Certification Downloadable Materials in Les Mills Connect.

THE LES MILLS RECRUIT JOURNEY

  • STAGE TWO – LIVE AUDITIONS

    Successful Trainer/Presenter applicants will be invited to a live Instructor audition day in March 2023: a fantastic opportunity to meet other Instructors, take part in upskill workshops, teaching presentations, and much more.

    More information will be shared Wednesday, February 15, 2023.

  • STAGE THREE – ONBOARDING

    Successful Trainer/Presenter applicants from auditions will be onboarded starting April 2023, which includes online sessions, practice events and assessments, and coaching.

    Successful Assessor applicants will be onboarded after February 15, 2023.

  • STAGE FOUR – LMUS SUMMIT 2023

    All Les Mills Recruits will attend the Les Mills US Trainer, Assessor, and Presenter Summit in Summer 2023.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is a Grade Review?

A Grade Review is part of the Les Mills Qualification assessment framework. You can find out more about Grade Reviews and how they are assessed here.

What’s the first step to apply?

Please submit a Les Mills Qualification Grade Review video via Les Mills Connect. Find the details of the video requirements and how to submit here. Submit your role application: Trainer/Presenter or Assessor.

Do I have to have completed Advanced Training to take part?

Not at this stage, but you must have it completed by the end of the process. This will be part of your onboarding process at no cost to you.

I have just certified or restarted teaching again - can I submit?

Yes, all active instructors are welcomed in the process.

Can I resubmit if I don’t get a level 5?

Yes, you have until December 15, 2022 to resubmit and achieve a level 5. The first Grade Review is free; any other grade reviews submitted will be at normal cost.

How do I know this process is fair? Where can I see the assessment criteria for Grade Reviews?

All Instructors are being assessed against the same Les Mills Qualification criteria. This can be found in the development forms and skills & criteria summary forms in the certifications page on Les Mills Connect.

For THE TRIP™, which doesn’t yet have Les Mills Qualifications criteria, you will be assessed in the current certification form.

There is no LMQ criteria for THE TRIP, so what is the criteria to be successful?

Based on the Certification Assessment form, the criteria for THE TRIP are:

Choreography: no less than 2 Choreography errors, smooth delivery with confidence.

Technique: No less than 80%

Coaching: appropriate use of Layers 1, 2 & 3 to coach effectively.

Connection and Performance Displays skills listed for 70% of the class.

Why does it need to be the latest releases?

Using the full release of the most recent four quarters allows the process to be as fair and relevant as possible. No mixing releases and must follow all other Grade Review requirements, here.

What tracks, programs and filming requirements are needed?

All the requirements for the Grade Review Submission can be found here.

How long will it take for the results of my Grade Review submission to come back?

All results will be received by Wednesday, February 15, 2023.

Will I get feedback if I am awarded a level lower than 5?

Yes, you will receive a detailed development form with coaching and feedback on the 5 key elements from our assessment team.

Can I apply in more than one program?

Yes. We recommend you apply initially in the program you feel you are the strongest in and enjoy teaching the most.

I’ve already submitted a Grade Review; how do I apply?

If you have been awarded a Level 5+, submit the role applications at the appropriate links: Trainer/Presenter or Assessor.

If you have been awarded Levels 1-4, you can submit a new video applying the coaching and feedback you received using the code TAPAPPLY2022 to submit a new grade review.

Do we need to pay for the submission? How do I apply the code?

First submission per program are free with the code TAPAPPLY2022 and will waive the payment fee to zero. All further submissions are at normal cost.

I’ve just paid for my Grade Review, and now you’re giving it for free?

We are not processing refunds for previous Grade Reviews. This promotional code will be used for The Les Mills Recruit applicants only.

What’s the criteria/requirements/theme for the education presentation?

Film a 60 second video of yourself outlining your Why. Then film a 2 minute video of yourself explaining one of the 5 Key Elements of your choosing. Use any resources or delivery style you see fit.

How do I submit the role application?

Submit the role application, including written example for Assessors and video presentation for Trainer/Presenters.

Will I get feedback on the education presentation either way?

Yes, we are dedicated to our Instructor development, regardless of the outcome.

When will I know if I’ve made it to the Auditions?

All feedback and outcomes, including audition invites, will be sent out by Wednesday, February 15th, 2023.

Where will the Auditions be? What is the audition process?

The audition locations and dates will be shared with participants throughout the process. We will share the dates with plenty of time so applicants are able to plan ahead.

The structure of the auditions will be shared with the successful applicants ahead of the weekends.

How many Trainers and Presenters are you looking to recruit? Is there a specific program you’re recruiting for?

We are recruiting for new talent, there is no specific number we are looking to fill.

What is the job of a Trainer and Presenter team member?

To be an ambassador for Les Mills: Educating, training and inspiring our Instructor community.

Are you looking for a particular body shape, size or age?

We are committed to following the Les Mills Diversity and Inclusion program. We are looking for the best talent to join the Trainer and Presenter team, regardless of body shape, size or age.

Do I need to be based in the US to take part?

Yes, you must be living and teaching in the US to be able to take part in the process.

Why is BORN TO MOVE™ not included in The Les Mills Recruit?

This event is for adult programs only, so BORN TO MOVE™ will not be included.

If I cannot submit a Grade Review right now, can I apply later?

Unfortunately, due to the timings and arrangements of The Les Mills Recruit we will not be able to process any extensions for Grade Reviews, this is to keep the process as fair as possible.
