Acquisition & Retention

For the past decade, LES MILLS THE TRIP has played a huge part of SATS Stureplan, redefining the indoor cycling experience. We spoke with Anna Johansson, Regional Group Fitness Manager at SATS, and Adam Gripenblom a rewarded THE TRIP instructor, about what THE TRIP has meant for the club and its members over the years.

A Unique Selling Point That Drives Membership Growth

“The impact of THE TRIP has been incredible,” Anna says. “It has been and continues to be a major unique selling point (USP) for us. Not only has it attracted new members, but it has also increased class participation significantly.”

The immersive cycling experience, which combines high-energy workouts with stunning visuals, has transformed how members approach cardio training. “Many members have discovered a new love for endurance training thanks to THE TRIP. It’s fun, engaging, and keeps people coming back.”

Success Stories and Member Engagement

THE TRIP has played a key role in SATS Stureplan’s success. “Having THE TRIP at our club has contributed to us winning ‘GX Team of the Year’ in our internal SATS competition,” Anna shares. “It’s something both our members and staff associate strongly with SATS Stureplan.”

The feedback from gym members has been overwhelmingly positive. “THE TRIP receives standing ovations. Many members are amazed when they try it for the first time - it’s a real ‘wow’ experience.”

Keeping members engaged and motivated is crucial, and Anna highlights the importance of skilled instructors. “Our instructors are top-tier professionals with an incredible passion for what they do. Their energy and commitment make a huge difference in keeping members motivated.”

To keep the experience fresh, SATS Stureplan regularly updates class releases. “Instructors choose their own releases, which prevents members from getting bored. We also build excitement around new releases, creating anticipation and keeping engagement high.”

A Key Factor in Member Retention and Business Growth

THE TRIP has been a key element in SATS Stureplan’s member acquisition strategy. “It’s a USP that we know sells,” Anna states. New members are introduced to the class during club tours, ensuring they experience its full impact. “We always show them the cycling studio - it gives them that ‘wow’ feeling.”

Anna believes word-of-mouth plays a big role in its success. “Existing members share their experiences with friends and colleagues, which creates organic marketing.”

THE TRIP has also influenced the club’s revenue streams, particularly through corporate bookings. “Most of our corporate classes over the years have been THE TRIP. It’s been a strong attraction point for external visitors.”

With an impressive 65,000 participants across 1,750 classes in 2024, THE TRIP accounted for 47% of all group fitness visits at SATS Stureplan. “We adjust the schedule based on demand and seasonality. Right now, we offer around 30 classes per week to meet the high demand.”

Advice for Gym Owners and Future Outlook

For gym owners considering implementing a program like THE TRIP, Anna emphasizes the importance of great instructors. “Instructors are the ones who meet and engage with members, so having a highly skilled and passionate team is crucial. It’s also essential that all staff understand the concept, ensuring a seamless member experience.”

Looking ahead, SATS Stureplan is committed to maintaining THE TRIP as a standout feature. “We want to continue delivering the highest standard - instructors, top-tier cycling studios, and knowledgeable staff. THE TRIP will remain a defining feature of SATS Stureplan.”

Adam Gripenblom has been a dedicated instructor for LES MILLS THE TRIP for many years. His passion and commitment to group fitness have not gone unnoticed, as he was honoured with the title of Group Fitness Instructor of the Year at SATS. Adam's classes are incredibly popular, often with long waiting lists, a testament to his engaging teaching style and the immersive experience he creates for his participants. We asked Adam about his experience over the years.

Adam Gripenblom, THE TRIP Instructor at SATS

How has your experience been as an instructor for THE TRIP?
It’s been absolutely amazing! Every single class is a blast – it’s fun, it’s intense, and it’s incredibly rewarding. Seeing people get lost in the experience, pushing their limits, and leaving the room feeling energized and accomplished is just the best feeling ever. And

Can you share any memorable moments or highlights from your time teaching THE TRIP?
Oh, there are so many! One of the best moments is always when a first-timer comes up after class, completely in awe, saying something like, “I had NO idea a workout could feel like this!” Those moments remind me why I love what I do. Another highlight is when regulars tell me they’ve improved their fitness, conquered a tough climb, or just feel stronger and more confident. That’s what it’s all about – helping people discover what they’re capable of!
