Rachael on What June 20 Means for Instructors

June 20 is the day we bring our global Les Mills whānau (family) together for Workout for the World. With the special tracks landing in your Q2 releases soon, I share how your involvement can change the lives of others – while having lots of fun along the way.

It’s no secret that we group training teachers live for the massive smiles on members' red sweaty faces, knowing it was us that got them out of their head and back into their body. Doing things that we love, life on our terms, in the driving seat and feeling those good vibes back in your soul.

We always aim high with our ambitions. We want to make every workout at LES MILLS life changing – like habit-forming, health-giving, fitness-lifestyle-living, life changing!

We can't wait to see you there, give out some exciting prizes LIVE, and share best practices so that together we can support UNICEF in the most impactful way yet.

On June 20 we will be taking this to a whole new level. We’ll be raising funds to support kids impacted by conflict and natural disasters. Right now, over 1 in 6 kids globally live in a conflict zone.

Visiting a conflict zone in South Sudan back in 2017 really stayed with me. I saw families living in incredibly tough conditions – where access to medical care was limited or simply not there when it was needed most.

At the end of each day, I went back to the safety of a compound – to food, clean water, and a bed. Things that simply weren’t guaranteed for the children I’d met. And yet, even in those circumstances, children still found ways to show strength, resilience, and hope.

That’s what stuck with me.

Workout for the World is about turning what we do into something that supports their hope – helping provide essential supplies, care, and support where it’s crucially needed most. As little as US$29 can feed a malnourished child for a whole month – I’ve seen first hand just how life-changing that can be. When I think of how many children we can help through just one day of all working together, I feel truly inspired!

So how does it actually work?

This is a club-led activation, which means your club sets up their own fundraising page at workoutfortheworld.org.nz. To then make this as simple as possible, we recommend that members are encouraged to donate as part of their participation in the event.

As an Instructor, your role is to bring this to life. Every program in the Q2 release includes one track using one of the specially made Workout for the World songs (this will be highlighted in your choreo notes). These tracks were inspired by what kids said about the important work UNICEF do, and the impact we're trying to make, giving you the perfect opportunity to highlight this activation in your launch class.

Ideas to inspire engagement and donations

  • Before your launch event, share what you’re doing on social media and encourage people to come along

  • While you’re teaching your class, talk about Workout for the World, and direct members to your club’s donation page

  • Use the Workout for the World track to really connect your class to the cause

  • If you’re able, team-teach your class – it just brings that extra energy which members love

If you want to go a step further, you absolutely can:

  • Teach for free and donate your fee (chat to your manager about how your club handles this)

  • Make a personal donation

There’s no single right way – just be part of it.

Sharing the moment

Because every program includes a special Workout for the World track, produced by Les Mills, it means you, and your members, can film it and share it on social media with no music licensing worries. This is your opportunity to:

  • Capture the energy in your class
  • Share the message behind what you’re doing
  • Show the impact this community can have

Every post helps spread the word – and that drives more awareness, more support, and more impact.
