HOW DO I FIT STRENGTH TRAINING INTO MY ROUTINE?

Strength training is an essential part of any training regime, but it’s important to have a day off between strength sessions to let your muscles recover. If you’re doing a full-body strength workout, like BODYPUMP, it’s recommended you do it two to three times a week and balance it with cardio workouts in between.

DO I NEED EQUIPMENT FOR STRENGTH TRAINING?

No! Weight-based strength training certainly isn’t the only way to go. Integrated strength exercises like squats, lunges, push-ups will build serious strength with nothing but body weight. Workouts like CXWORX™, BODYATTACK™ and BODYBALANCE™ all build strength with no equipment.

WHAT IF I DON’T HAVE A BARBELL?

For weight-based workouts like BODYPUMP and LES MILLS GRIT™ Strength you can use any type of dumbbell, weight plate, kettlebell or resistance band. These workouts are packed with options and modifications, you can even use your bodyweight and still get a fantastic workout.

IS IT SAFE TO DO STRENGTH TRAINING AS A BEGINNER?

Strength training is something everyone should do – it is key to any effective fitness routine! LES MILLS On Demand has options to suit every ability and even special beginner workouts. If you’re new start with very light weights (or even just the bar). You’ll find your fitness and strength improves over a number of sessions.

HOW MUCH WEIGHT SHOULD I LIFT?

Studies show one of the best ways to tone and shape lean muscles is by lifting light weights in high repetitions. However, it’s important to keep lifting more weight as you get stronger. If at any time the weight you are lifting is compromising your technique stop and reset – maintaining good technique is key to safe and effective workout.
