What is LES MILLS REFORMER™?

16.07.2026

Instructor Insights

LES MILLS REFORMER is a music-driven Reformer Pilates workout designed for structured group training. It introduces a new way to coach Reformer Pilates, bringing control, flow, and choreography together in every class. Here's how it works, what makes it different, the growing demand behind it, and the opportunities this brings for Instructors.

What is LES MILLS REFORMER and how does it work?

LES MILLS REFORMER is a 45-minute Reformer Pilates workout that combines traditional Pilates principles with music-driven, choreographed training.

Each class is organized around four core training blocks – Foundation, Front, Back, and Stretch – that guide the session from start to finish.

Training uses controlled movement patterns with time under tension and pulses to develop strength, stability, mobility, and control.

Participants choose their own resistance using the reformer spring system, allowing them to adjust intensity for different experience levels.

What makes LES MILLS REFORMER different from traditional Reformer Pilates?

LES MILLS REFORMER replaces the variability of traditional Reformer Pilates with a structured format designed for consistency across classes and locations.

The playlist drives timing, rhythm, and movement quality throughout each session, shaping how the workout is performed rather than acting as background music.

The Instructor role is also different. Instructors coach while demonstrating approximately 70–80% of the movements from a reformer bed at the front of the room, using visual and verbal cueing to guide technique and flow.

Together, the choreography, music, and coaching create a unified, rhythm-led training experience distinct from traditional Reformer Pilates.

Did you know?

LES MILLS REFORMER has already been tested in live club settings across France, the UK, Sweden, and New Zealand, where classes filled quickly and wait lists grew. Instructors responded positively, highlighting the music, flow, simple structure, and clear sequencing, which made it easier to learn than traditional Reformer Pilates. Leading from the front of the room also helped Instructors create a stronger connection and shared energy with participants.

What LES MILLS REFORMER means for Instructors

Reformer Pilates is one of the fastest-growing additions to gym and boutique studio timetables. In the UK alone, online search interest for “Reformer Pilates” increased by 57% between late 2024 and mid-2026

For Instructors, this is already visible on the ground – fuller sessions mean more Reformer classes are being added to timetables, creating more opportunities to teach.

LES MILLS REFORMER gives Instructors an entry point with training that takes less time than traditional Reformer Pilates qualifications, while still delivering a high-quality, supported learning experience. That means you can qualify quicker and start teaching classes where demand is already strong.

FAQs

What is a LES MILLS REFORMER class?

A LES MILLS REFORMER class is a 45-minute Reformer Pilates workout for group training, choreographed to music and led from the reformer bed.

It combines structured Pilates principles with music-driven coaching to create a consistent, repeatable class format.

Who can teach LES MILLS REFORMER?

No prior Pilates certification or Reformer qualification is required to teach LES MILLS REFORMER. The program is designed as a supported pathway for both new and experienced Instructors, with the choreography, structure and coaching framework created for you. This allows Instructors to bring their own personality, passion and coaching style to the Reformer bed.

What is the music in LES MILLS REFORMER like?

This class is deeply rooted in music. The energy of the music sets the tempo, so everybody is moving together and can feed off the shared dynamic. This brings a level of energy that is highly unique to LES MILLS REFORMER.

The music was selected for this programming to match the tempo of each exercise. Each song sets the timing and energy, taking participants on a journey through the class.

How does LES MILLS REFORMER training work?

LES MILLS REFORMER training follows the Les Mills Signature training journey, with all learning delivered on Reformer equipment to ensure a fully practical, hands-on experience.

Instructors learn how to coach while demonstrating from the reformer bed, using music-driven timing and structured training blocks. Training is delivered over a single two-day in-person course, followed by assessment.

Why is training in-person only?

Reformer equipment is required for safe, practical learning that cannot be replicated online. This ensures Instructors experience real-time coaching, movement execution, and spring-based resistance.

How does LES MILLS REFORMER support different fitness levels?

Participants control resistance using reformer springs, with built-in modifications for all levels.

This allows beginners and experienced participants to train within the same structured class format.

Is LES MILLS REFORMER a fixed or evolving program?

Like other Les Mills programs, LES MILLS REFORMER is updated quarterly with structured training blocks that can be mixed and matched across releases.
