Interview with Agneta Antonsson, Club Manager at Nordic Wellness Odenplan
Last year was an unusually eventful and transformative period for our club. We replaced almost our entire equipment, and it truly became a major upgrade for us. Alongside this, we introduced the new Les Mills SMARTSTEP and installed a virtual screen in our large studio, further elevating the overall group training experience.
Beyond equipment, we focused on strengthening our internal processes and the everyday member journey. For example, we created clearer routine checklists for front-desk staff, such as cleaning procedures, making them easier to follow while still prioritizing what matters most: meeting members with warmth and creating a welcoming atmosphere.
We frequently receive feedback that it simply feels great to come to our club. To enhance that feeling, we also organize special event classes, offer goodie bags, serve coffee and small treats, and stay active on social media, which is highly appreciated. Our goal is to create a personal touch within a large organization.
Staying ahead of group fitness trends
Thanks to our strong and close collaboration with Les Mills, staying up to date with group training trends comes naturally. With the Les Mills portfolio, we are confident that we can always deliver a fresh, modern, and relevant class offering. Internally, we also have a dedicated Group Training (GT) department that continuously updates us on new developments, ensuring our timetable stays inspiring and current.
Why upgrading equipment was important
Competition in the fitness industry is intense, and in many cases, clubs offer very similar services: strength training, cardio training, and group fitness. To stay relevant and sustainable long-term, upgrading equipment is essential. The new Les Mills SMARTSTEP upgrade was a strategic decision to remain competitive and continue delivering high-quality experiences on exciting classes.
The importance of instructors
I am incredibly grateful for our instructors, who are loyal, highly skilled, and do an outstanding job every day. I strongly believe that the fact that I am also an instructor and have extensive experience myself, creates a sense of trust and security among both instructors and members. This shared understanding strengthens relationships and engagement across the club. Members, too, clearly feel that commitment from us.
Member reactions
We often hear how inspiring and professional our instructors are, and were gularly receive heartfelt stories from our members.
One example that truly stands out is a member who started training with us during a very difficult period in their life, struggling with poor mental health. Through regular training, the person found not only improved wellbeing but also new friendships. Life has changed completely for the better, and the member credit this transformation to the welcoming treatment and the support received from us.
Long-term impact
I firmly believe our long-term success comes from a balance of stability and innovation. A strong foundation built on safety, trust, and consistency, combined with openness to trying new things is key.
Right now, one of our greatest strengths is being a family-oriented, energetic club, where people feel seen, supported, and inspired. The new Les Mills SMARTSTEP upgrade is one important piece of that bigger picture.
