DIANA ARCHER MILLS: WE ASKED, SHE ANSWERED

Ask Diana Archer Mills about her job and she tells you she’s a clown… a super busy one. One minute she’s leading the development of new group fitness innovations, the next she’s providing nutrition inspiration – and between she’s entertaining her four children by pretending to be a horse.

If you could choose one person to work out with, who would it be and why?

Personal trainer and Les Mills presenter Corey Baird – for the best chats ever! Or Master Shifu. I would love to learn to be a Kung Fu master in a day.

What’s your favorite workout routine?

I love BODYPUMP and the new LES MILLS BARRE class that will be landing in clubs soon. But really, my most common workout right now is pretending to be a horse!

What does a cheat day look like for you?

I don’t have cheat days. I have a long list of food allergies, like I can’t have any dairy because I’ll be sick – even just from a sip of milk. So I eat pretty well by default. Whenever there is something that I want to eat, I eat it. I try not to restrict myself to a “bad food” day a week, as I end up bingeing and feeling worse. So if I eat a block of chocolate or an enormous slice cake I just tell myself it is what my body needed in that moment – and I remember to fill up on nutrients at the next meal.

If you had to choose your last meal, what would it be?

Probably peanut butter sandwiches and caramelised bananas.

How do you relax, de-stress and chill out?

I have four children. Once in a while I sleep. It’s magical.

If you could change one thing about your appearance, what would it be?

Nothing, I am unique and bizarre looking and I love it.

What characteristic do you most admire in other people?

The ability to create conversation with a group of strangers without feeling like a total weirdo.

Name the last book you read, the last movie you watched, and track you currently have on high rotate.

I’m reading Harry Potter to the boys, and re-reading Tigana by Guy Gavriel Kay to myself. But technically, the last book that I read was Spot Goes to the Circus, and I read it eight times!

What social media can’t you live without? Favorite feeds?

I like Instagram. Some of my favorite feeds are @thrive – an amazing vegan food and lifestyle magazine, @beigecardigan and @scarymommy.

If you could have one superpower, what would you choose?

To fly of course.

What’s the best non-physical thing about staying in shape?

Not being psychotic all of the time.

Who should play you in the movie based on your life?

Bill Murray. He’d do a great job I feel.

Diana Archer Mills has a love of health and fitness running through her blood. She was just 12 when she started working in the gym owned by her parents (Phillip and Jackie Mills). Now, as Les Mills Creative Director she is behind the music and moves that feature in some of your favorite workouts. But that’s certainly not Diana’s most important role. Diana is a mom of four – so it’s fair to say she knows a fair bit about pregnancy, parenting and how to juggle a busy young family with a passion for health and fitness.
